In Memoriam: Dr Shiu-chiu Tso (1935 - 2025)

Dr SC Tso Members of the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences Society learn with great sadness the passing of Dr. S C Tso on 23rd October of 2025.

Dr. Tso graduated MB.BS with distinction from the University of Hong Kong in 1959. He joined the University Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital in 1960 and rose to the rank of Professor in 1980. He went into private practice in 1985, specializing in haematology.

Throughout his professional career he was a dedicated teacher, an exemplary physician, whilst also being an innovative researcher and a visionary leader. He was interested in both the science and art of medicine.

This is probably why he became a Founding member of the HKMMS Society and served as one of its Directors from 1995 and its Chairman from 2009 to 2011.

The Objective of the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences is to educate the public about Hong Kong’s medical history and to preserve historical materials relating to the local development of medicine. This was achieved through exhibitions, guided tours, talks and publications. Dr. Tso’s invaluable contribution and visionary leadership for 3 decades will be fondly remembered by all members of the Museum.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Priscilla Tso and family.
